Hey there, this is the second faction focus already! We are looking at the counterpart for the Sand Kingdoms in the first starter box, the Coalition of Thenion. Before we dive into the characters themselves, lets start with what the Coalition of Thenion is. Your choice of army always becomes a bit better when you know the lore and motivation behind the chosen faction. Let’s dive in!

The Rin of the Moon, Thenrin
You have two kinds of people coming from the Lands where the Age of Dusk crept ever closer. The Thenrin and the Helrin, with the latter being the fairer of the two. We are not going to talk about the Helrin this week, and our focus lies on the travels of the Thenrin. They went in search of an escape the Age of Dusk and ended up underground eventually.
In the Odyssey that spanned almost a decade, the best place they could find to start over were caves going deep underground. Since the dark was always present, the surface went freezing cold, so whenever they went to it, they made sure they did it when the moon was showing. They celebrated the moon goddess and her seven patron gods, with the lunar equinox being the main festival. Their name means Rin of the moon, Thenrin.
As time passes, they started making civilizations underground. As a result of rarely seeing any light, their skin color changed into a paler, grayish color. They are in touch with mana, but unlike the Sand Kingdoms, they use it to enhance their physique. This resulted in a stronger, faster, more agile folk than anything else in the worlds. This is also why they are the first choice for others in need for some “dirty work”.
The Coalition of Thenion
As you might expect from a civilization that has hid for most of their existence, they are good at it. Within this faction, you will find spell casters like the Priestess that are used to buff the other adventurers. They also love to debuff the enemy, all while protecting their own. You have hard hitters like the Thenrin Swashbuckler and ranged shooters like the Rangers-Guild Hunter. The cunning and speed of the leader, the Night Shade, is a formidable foe with her speed and stratagems. These are used for all keywords around the party.
The Night Temple Priestess
So, lets start with the demon in the room. Scary for the opponent, bewitching for the party she is in with her succubi skills like drain life that literally sucks the life out of the enemy. For her own party, she has a morale boost of +6 to checks, which makes her pleasant to be around with, as far as a demon goes.
With being a demon, she can scare the living daylights out of the opponent when they take a hit, forcing an immediate panic attack. Did I say she does not suffer fall damage because she can fly? Next to that, this ability also makes her protected against melee attacks.

The Thenrin Swashbuckler
What do you get when you give an angry weapons specialist more weapons? The Thenrin Swashbuckler! With the option to wield 2 single-handed swords, and the mastery to brag about with via Fencing, you have a devastating army of one. This model wants to be on top of the fight. Dual wield gives the model a re-roll on failed hits, while Masterful Parry and Harsh Riposte steal attack possibilities from the melee attacks of the opponent. No melee option yet? Don’t worry, this model has dash and can run into melee with an extra attack.
This basically means the opponent, when in melee, can do a lot less than normal, while the Swashbuckler can do a lot more. In simple terms, this means that this model has a REALLY high chance to come out of melee victorious. This model is also the first adventurer other factions can hire.

The Rangers Guild Hunter
The name says all. This is a true hunter, stalking prey from afar and weakening them or outright killing the model before it has a chance to act. The short bow has a whopping range of 20 without penalties and only needs LOS to target. The assassin keyword makes a critical hit on a 1, 2 and 3 instead of only a roll of 1. With the infiltration also present on this model, you can start firing death on the first activation this model gets. You do not want to be on the receiving end of his skills!
To make matters worse, this model has Stealth II, meaning that without LOS, this model does not trigger a reaction. To worsen the deal some more, you can have this model enter the battlefield in a shrouded state and have it enter back in again at will during the strategic phase of the round. No reactions without LOS, almost invisible and kills with one arrow. Where the Swashbuckler is the melee monster, this is the alternative to ranged magic.

The Night Shade
Being the leader of the pack, she is the one with the true power in the form of stratagems. This means that on top of the other already powerful skills, they gain some more in certain phases of the round. How about jumping in and out of combat while attacking. What about some more movement and what do you think of debuffing the opponents speed value. She is, when played well, a true horror to fights against.
Her “normal” skills are something impressive as well. Just like the Ranger Guild Hunter, she can +6 PW when “aiming for vitals”. If you are the active player, all your hits become critical hits. The only wise thing to do with such an enemy, is to hide and hope she doesn’t see you.

Why The Coalition of Thenion?
If you like to play sneaky, have way more speed than the opponent and want to scare the living hell out of them with a demon at your side, this is the faction for you. When in combat, their lethal assassination and rogue skills match no other in the game. When out of combat you can make sure you get into combat and the Ranger Guild hunters weaken the enemy to come in with a blow. What more could you want.

Want more Eldfall Chronicles and Coalition of Thenion?
One of the stand-out points for the Coalition of Thenion, is that you can use some of the models in other factions as mercenaries. Think of the Slayer Dragoon and Lupus Rex, or the Thenrin Swashbuckler in the starter box/ faction box. There are more faction based and mercenary models in the separate model boxes and wayfarers expansion.
